SCOPE

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. It is also referred to as the ‘mother’ branch of engineering. Another appealing feature of mechanical engineering is that the application base of this field of study is extremely broad and diverse. Almost all inventions during the ancient period and a vast majority in the modern era are direct contributions of one or the other application of mechanics.

Mechanical Engineering finds applications almost in all fields of technology. The main job of a mechanical engineer is to make things work.These “things” can be car engines, airplanes engines, power plants, air conditioners, lawn mowers or even exercise equipment.

Mechanical engineers can thus get employed in nearly every industry whether private or public sector, with most working for manufacturing firms and a considerable number, working in consulting services.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Mechanical engineering

Mechanical engineering department of MBITS is fully fledged with state of the art lab facilities and campus amenities. Started in the year 2009, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers both undergraduate (B.Tech) and postgraduate (M.Tech) programs with an annual intake of 120 students in B.Tech and 24 students in M.Tech. The department, under the leadership of Mr. Nedheesh Eldho Baby is fledged with a team of 20 including 2 guest faculties well qualified faculties who are fully devoted in continuous learning and innovative development. The department maintains well equipped lab facilities which allow the students to acquire hands-on experience in modern industrial facilities to meet the requirements of present industrial scenarios.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

There is a huge demand for skilled mechanical engineers in India and abroad. The expertise of a mechanical engineer is required in manufacturing industries like automobiles, aviation, etc. In recent times and due to the advent in technology, the skills of a mechanical engineer are sought in fields such as Nano-technology, Biomedical engineering, Energy conservation and more.

Since mechanical engineering is the broadest of all engineering fields, the job prospects on offer for skilled mechanical engineers are aplenty and unending. Mechanical engineers are required to design, test, manufacture, install, operate and maintain a wide array of machines and mechanical systems that are used in countless industries. These professionals can find employment both in the government and private sector undertakings.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Half Marathon: Second year students of Mechanical Engineering Department, MBITS organised a half marathon for the awareness of traffic rules.

Quad Torc: Mechanical Engineering Department, MBITS was then the only team from Kerala who participated in ISNEE Quad Torc competition, final round conducted at Faridabad in 2015

RAME 2015: Conducted conference in Recent Advances in Mechanical Engineering, RAME 2015, the first national level conference conducted in the history of MBITS.

First Prize at IISC Bengaluru: Mr.Pradeepmon T.G. Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering Department, MBTS, Secured First prize in an International Level Conference conducted at IISC Bangalore in 2014
